Ellington Farm is a site-specific set of two freestanding paintings. The set features views, subjects, and flora found in and around Ellington Farm, a circa 1900 farmstead. The client requested paintings which would symbolize and represent the immediate landscape around the property, and the mountain views in the distance. CJ designed the companion paintings to hang on either side of a large bank of windows looking out into the evergreen trees. The paintings flank the windows and interact visually and symbolically with the landscape outside. Both paintings are mounted in CJ’s hand pounded copper frames. Detailed views of the paintings reveal the many intricate layers of under painting CJ employed to achieve the desired effect.
